Documented for the first time in 901 A.D., Bressanone in the South Tyrole an Eisack Valley is known as the oldest city of Tyrol.  The Old Town is dominated by the Baroque tri-naved cathedral and its romantic cloister. Many other buildings, such as the Clarissa cloister or the Holy Josef Freinademetz parish church, are proof of Bessanone’s long history as a diocesan town.

The Velthurns castle used to be the summer residence of Bessanone’s bishops. Its rich furnishings are remarkable as well as the valuable inlays in the Sovereign Room and the magnificently decorated tiled stoves. If you spend your vacation in a vacation home or hotel in Bressanone, you will find artwork from all eras. The Renaissance Pfaundler House has impressive cast iron grates.

The fountain at the cathedral square is a more modern work of art. Martin Rainer created a sculpture for it which symbolizes the course of human life. 

A population of 19 000 lives in this city picturesquely located between horse chestnut woods, fruit plantations and vineyards. Bressanone’s landmark is the 72 meter high „White Tower“ of the Holy Saint Michael parish church which is characterized by its four oriels and its bright roof.

Bressanone offers active vacationers a wide palette of sports activities. Horseback riding, swimming, golf or hiking promise perfect relaxation in the wonderful South Tyrolean Mountains. The Old Town’s narrow streets invite you to a stroll. A popular shopping opportunity are the many bower stores, here native vendors are just as present as the wares of international designers.
