
The village of Blankenheim is a well-known resort in the centre of the picturesque Eifel. The village with approx. 9,500 inhabitants mainly attracts many holidaymakers loving hiking and the nature due to its direct location at the Ahr mountain.
Also the ancient city centre is well worth seeing which is minted by medieval buildings and beautiful half-timbered houses. The spring of the river Ahr is in the cellar of such a building. The parish church “Holy Mary´s Ascension Day”can be viewed as being one of the most important buildings which impresses by reticulated vaults, a crypt and the neo-gothic Lord´s table. It was consecrated in the year 1505

The well-fortified “Hirtenturm” (Tower of the herdsmen) has been constructed in the year 1404.
The castle Blankenstein throwns on a hill over the village. It is used as a youth hostel. The visitors of Blankenheim will find further accommodation in two hotels and several holiday flats directly within the village.
Numerous recreational facilities have been set up at the spacious Burgsee (lake at the castle), amongst others a heated open air bath, the miniature golf links, tennis coarts and a boat hire. Surfing and fishing are also allowed.
Well worth the visit are also the archeological excacations of the Roman Villa Rustica which has been within the today´s city borders.
A hike trail which is 20 kilometres long leads along a walkable, medieval aqueduct, the so called “Tiergartentunnel”.
