The remainders of the city´s fortress are in the area of the ancient city centre like the Georg´s gate, nowadays place of the traditional carnical museum. The  well-fortified “Hirtenturm” (Tower of the herdsmen) has been constructed in the year 1404.
The castle Blankenstein throwns on a hill over the village. It is used as a youth hostel. The visitors of Blankenheim will find further accommodation in two hotels and several holiday flats directly within the village.

Numerous recreational facilities have been set up at the spacious Burgsee (lake at the castle), amongst others a heated open air bath, the miniature golf links, tennis coarts and a boat hire. Surfing and fishing are also allowed.
Well worth the visit are also the archeological excacations of the Roman Villa Rustica which has been within the today´s city borders.

A hike trail which is 20 kilometres long leads along a walkable, medieval aqueduct, the so called “Tiergartentunnel”.
