Bern’s Old Town has unique cultural assets to offer. Here you can experience the flair of arbors, cobblestone streets and decorated facades. The cathedral, the time bell tower, the Bear Burrow, the Federal House and Federal Square, the Aare River, more than 100 fountains, arbors and the zoo are all documents of Bern’s history and entertainment opportunities.

Culturally interested people will enjoy a visit to the Einstein House, the Bern Civil Library and the Swiss Alpine Museum.

The botanical garden is located in the city center. On an area of over two hectares, 6000 types of plants grow outdoors or in one of 7 greenhouses. Bern’s appearance is still magnificent today thanks to its many fountains, which also characterize the cityscape. They are witnesses of the city’s history and honor former heroes.

The Bear Burrow goes back to an anecdote. According to lore, the city founder, Berchtold V. von Zaehringen, killed a bear on the Aare Peninsula, which gave the city its name and is still Bern’s heraldic animal today. You can marvel at the bears here in open hunting grounds.
