The Basse-Normandie region-history with flair
Basse-Normandy (Eng.: Lower Normandy) is the name of a region on the English Channel in northern France. It consists of the departments of Orne, Manche and Calvados. The main city of this region is Caen.
It is a well visited vacation region in which many people from all over the world spend their vacation. This can be seen in the readily available vacation homes and apartments which were built for this reason. The main point of interest in this region is, without a doubt, the rock island Mont-Saint-Michel in front of the coast near Avranches. On this island, about one square kilometer in size, a Benedictine monastery has existed since the 8th century, in which a few monks still live today.
