Balderschwang – Welcome to the paradise of the endless opportunities

The municipality of Balderschwang can be reached since 1961 through Germany´s highest pass, the pass is called Riedbergpass. It is with nearly 250 inhabitants the most tiny village in the area called Oberallgäu and directly at the border to Austria.

At the same time it is - if you have compare the municpalities by the height of their centre - the municipality of Bavaria which is located on the highest sea level: 1044 above the mean sea level. When looking back to history we can state that the production of cheese was the most important source of income. Nowadays the friendly inhabitants of Balderschwang welcome the leisure travellers in traditional holiday flats, holiday homes or hotels.

 

You can yet watch the fascinating handicraft of making cheese. A further attraction is a yew which is at least 1,000 years old and located approximately 1 km northern to the center of the village. She grows on a chalky mixture of river gravel and calciumcarbonate and bears despite its great age numerous fruits.

After having chosen a holiday flat, a boarding house or a hotel in Balderschwang it´s only a stone´s throw to Oberstdorf which is located in a distance of 20 kilometers where skiing is written in capital letters. Especially in Winter all winter sports activities are represented and everyone will find the sport where the heart beats faster.

And when the snow has melted the Allgäu and the nearby forest of Bregenz show itself as being the perfect paradise for hikers, cyclists and inline skaters. And if the weather is not so fine the region offers exciting opportunities for organizing a day in the Breitachklamm or one of the multifaceted museums.
