Region - Bahia, Brazil

 

The coast of Bahia extends over 1.000 kilometres. It’s endless sand beaches, picturesque, small coastal places enchant every visitor of this region, which is located in the northern part of Brazil.
Well worth seeing  is the capitol of the region, Salvador de Bahia.  Unlike Rio, there is no samba-arena  to carnival, so all the activities take place in the streets.  The old town is noted for it’s baroque style and colonial buildings and estates which provide an insight into the past of the country.

For holiday-makers that want to escape the cold filthy weather in the winter, this season is ideal for a vacation in Brazil. The carnival also takes place in Salvador  at this time and therefore it is necessary to book a hotel or motel on time.  Otherwise there is the danger  to not find any suitable overnight accommodation.

The region Bahia is filled with mixed cultures.  The visitor nowhere else finds as many Afro-American descendants as here in Brazil.  The traditions are still maintained among these people from their old native country.

Bahia has scenically very much to offer.  Numerous grottos and waterfalls are in the plateau of Chapada Diamantina and the sea national park Abrolhos has one of the greatest coral-reefs of the country.
