The town of the popes and the church – Avignon

Mireille Mathieu has already sung about it – the nice French city Avignon. If you will come here to spend your holiday in a summer cottage, a hotel or a pension you have certainly not landed exactly at that place by pure chance.

Avignon is one of the nicest towns of France and fascinates by numerous places of interest like the pope's palace, the famous Saint-Bénezet-Bridge (Pont d'Avignon) and numerous promenades. The fact that the clerical head once had his head office at that place is pictured by the locals with great pleasure. Many brilliant places of interest remind of the ecclesiastical head of the mediaeval times.

The Old Town as well as the town wall, the palace and the bridge – which were appointed by UNESCO once as world cultural heritage certainly belong to the nice monuments of best condition. Even the friends of the theatrical art will find their absolute holiday fulfilment. If you are interested a little bit in theatre and if you can be enthusiastic about festivals you are sure well-advised with a hotel, a flat or a holiday apartment in Avignon.

Of course Avignon also sparkles because of – like in most French towns – the friendliness of the French as well as their loose way of life and fascinates every vacationer.
