Sachsen-Anhalts fine Northern part aglows in a new light. Meadows until the horizon and agreeable silence, tiny villages of half-timbered houses ranging back to the medieval age and a tasty, regional dish can be enjoyed in the region „Altmark“ in the Northern part of Sachsen-Anhalt. In former times this was the most ancient part of the Mark Brandenburg and is therefore denominated as being the „cradle of Prussia“. It is minted by a rich history, classic and untouched beauty and a multicolored culture.

There are more than 100 hotels, boardinghouses, riding stables and holiday flats which offer their service in a noble ambience. Many of the cities of the Altmark are a mirror of the social life and the architecture of the medieval age. The venerable Stendal as the largest city of the Altmark is likewise well worth the visit like the imperial residence of the medieval age and city of half-timbered houses Tangermünde, where the King Karl IV. lived and governed or the ancient Hanseatic city Salzwedel with the true pyramid cake of Salzwedel.

Soft souls feel that they get wings at the romantic tiny village of Arneburg at the steep slope to the Elbe. Although it is mostly without hills and mountains the Altmark distinguishing itself by a richness of catchy, untouched sceneries. The main attractions are amongst others the *Aue*, the Havel lowland, the national park Drömling, the „Wische“ of Altmarkvalley, the meadows of Colcbitz-Letzling and the Werder of Kalbe. The merry hiker finds 18 nature trails with a length of more than 80 kilometers.

Friends of camping and caravaning have fun when camping within the untouched nature at the lake of Kamern or the lake Schönfeld. The tradition of beer browing in the Altmark ranges back for a period of more than a century! You can watch the dedicated beer browing specialists during their work an the so called „Beer and hop trail of the Altmark“, can take part in a beer seminar with a course for broaching a barrel or can enjoy the different sorts of beer. The Altmark is an ancient German scenery of culture. Churches advanced in years, attracting castles and manorial lord´s houses beautiful parks and gardens, a dynamic course of history - all of this waits to be explored in the Altmark. The street of the romanic age, the Bismarck trail, the Hanseatic trail of the Altmark allow the visitors to have a rest of teh outstanding type.

The farmer´s weeks of the Altmark are a ritual which is copied often. The Altmark awaits its explorers regardless the type of motion: by foot, on the back of a horse or simple as a cyclist.
