Berlin, the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany is subdivided into 12 areas and 95 districts, one of them is Berlin Lichtenberg. Area and district own the same name. In the east of Berlin situated Berlin Lichtenberg has been mentioned already in the 13th century. At that time this place was, situated in the Barnim, an agriculturally embossed place. Primal in 1907 Lichtenberg received the municipal law. Since 1920 Lichtenberg belongs to Berlin, thus was suburbanized and perpetuated as a quarter of Berlin.

Nine districts belong to Berlin Lichtenberg. The town district stretches across more than 13 kilometres and has to offer regional as well as culturally a lot of attractive specific features. Berlin-Karlshorst is to be called here as district known by the harness racing track. But also the former dwelling house of Hedwig Courths-Mahler is visited by many tourists with great pleasure.

The ruin of the former village church you find a memorial place for the 2nd world war, hence, Malchow is a worth seeing place. The city hall of Lichtenberg, a neo-Gothic brick building which was finished in autumn 1898 is especially worth seeing. Regarding to the interesting historical buildings due to several disastrous fires in the course of the history of Berlin Lichtenberg only the foundation walls of the village church have been preserved.
