Lazio - travel to the past

Lazio lies in the center of Italy on the west coast. The capital of Lazio, and also of Italy, is Rome. If you come to Rome, you should book a hotel or a vacation apartment. The city is not to be seen within one day and it is well worth while to spend a few days here.

But there is more to see in the Lazio region than Rome. In the city of Tivoli, for example, many impressive villas from the times of the Roman Empire still exist which used to be the summer residences of the Roman emperors.

24 kilometers away from Rome lie the Albanian Mountains, over which the summit of the Monte Cavo volcano towers. The Temple of Jupiter, the highest Roman god, used to stand here. Unfortunately, this temple no longer exists, but the street leading to it can still be seen. 

This region around the Albanian Mountains with its crater lakes was generally popular with the Romans who had many villas built here as retreats. They make this region a popular excursion destination and a trip to the past at the same time.
