Holsteini Switzerland, Schleswig-Holstein

 

Even if the Holsteinische Schweiz bears the name of the famous country of the confederates: The comparison between Switzerland and the Holsteinische Schweiz hobbles. The hilly region of the Holsteinische Schweiz may appear like a massif in comparision to the more even proximity of Schleswig-Holstein. In front of the Suisse Alps, the highest elevation of the Holsteinische Schweiz, the Bungsberg with a height of 168 meters looks a bit decent.

Instead of alpine glow, romance in wooden huts and edelweiss Holstein tempts with other attractions: Maybe you can watch here – in the country between Lübeck and Kiel – the white-tailed eagles which circles above the hills, the approximately 200 lakes and the dense forests. Or you paddke with the canoe on the Schwentine or one of the numerous channels. At the same time the light which is refracted by the treetops dances on the water ?

The nature is able to convince: also in the so called „Suisse part“ of Holstein.

Use the sun  – it´s shining often here !

Not too many regions in Germany have more sun hours than the Holsteinische Schweiz. Thus the chance is large that you will have the opportunity for bathing in the free nature: Maybe in the large lake of Plön which is traversed by the Schwentiene, where numerous small islands invite for exploration tours ? You can wander also under the blue sky passing ancient mills and water mills, manor houses and mansions, magnificent castles like the castle of Eutin oder the castle Plön.  In spring you nearly won´t look your fill with luminous canola fields and maybe you experience the thus typical reeds roofed houses and wall hedges. The center of the region is the national park Holsteinische Schweiz: Marine otters inhabit the numerous bodies of water here and in spring and in autumn you can watch swarms of birds of passage.

Every day can completely evolve different if you decide for a  room at a hotel, a boarding house, a holiday flat or a holiday house in the Holsteinische Schweiz. The Baltic Sea with its Sea baths can be reached as easily as the Karl May festivals in Bad Segeberg, the cities of Kiel and Lübeck, the high rope course in Bad Malente or the Hanspark, Germanys only amusement park at the Sea.

 

What if it rains ?

The you needn´t to be in the doldrums in the Holsteinische Schweiz. Maybe you would like to use one of the numerous wellness opportunities for which the Holsteinische Schweiz is famous. Then take your accommocation in the Kneipp cure bath Bad Malente Gremsmühlen. Or you marvel about the arts and crafts, paitings of eras long gone by in the castle of Eutin ? Your children will also have much fun in the natural park house in Plön: Here learning is really lots of fun, nature is physical and touchable. Or you enjoy culinary delights which are basic and typical for the region in one of the farm cafes in the region while the children are busy with the ponies in the stalls. Animals and children: This is often a good combination.

And if its snowing ?
Let us draw the line back to the comparison between Switzerland and Switzerland. Both stretches of land are not so dissimilar: Also the Holsteinische Schweiz sometimes allures skiers. The once and only ski lift of Schleswig-Holstein is located in the Bungsberg. Out of the holiday home and start skiing. Have fun with it !
