Island Hiddensee, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

 

Have you ever heart something about the braised eel of Hiddensee ? If not then you should look closely once at the „Bodden“ landscape of Western Pomerania on the island Hiddensee near Rügen, the cordial nickname of this natural idyllic place is „Sötes Länneken“ (sweet tiny piece of land).

Traditional reeds roofed houses in a white dune scenery in the main village Vitte, the cultural centre Kloster, the most ancient village Grieben or the most Southern village Neuendorf offer a familiar atmosphere like being a sea traveler. Thjis atmosphere can be explored by bike, with an oxcart or even with hiking boots. The salty sea breath is last but not least the reason for blowing away the stress of the mainland besides a colourful programme of wellness activities like Yoga, Nordic Walking or Tai-Chi.

 

Also the smaller ones will - for a long time - narrate in an enthusiastic way about their experiences with building sand castles, the puppet theatre „Seebühne“ or the pirate´s campfire at the beach. But also concerts and readings were able to reach the island: The house of Gerhard Hauptmann or Henri-Lehmann House stage them. Art can also be experienced through an unhurried walk to the „Galerie am Torbogen“ or in the free nature alongside the trails.

Active holidaymakers who are sports addicts will find their luck with swimming, sailing and surfing within the waves of the Baltic Sea. Many privately-owned holiday homes or vacation rooms or family-owned hotels and holiday houses are welcoming you. Tasting the braised eel is a must-do.
